Background
The study aims to provide an overview of the impacts of Climate Change on children in the Maldives and propose recommendations to address climate change-related vulnerabilities and appropriate strategies to address the impacts, which may potentially cause hindrances to the achievement of child rights and wellbeing agenda of the country.
The study comes in a time where in recent years high frequency low impact hydro-meteorological hazards due to changes in weather patterns had been observed occurring in the Maldives, more often causing coastal flooding and storm surges resulting in inundation of households, lifeline infrastructure such as health centers, schools and increased incidences of water-borne diseases such as diarrhea which impact the lives of children and women.
An International Consultant has been recruited, seconded by a National Consultant to conduct the study and provide overall guidance on the research to be conducted in the 6 selected islands:
The 4 data collectors will be responsible for the household data collection in the selected 6 islands.
The 4 data collectors will be supervised by the National Consultant recruited to support the study. Guidance and oversight will be provided by the officer-in-charge of the study at UNICEF Maldives.
