The Maldives Judicial Academy created on 31st August 2015 is a functionally autonomous and separate institution within the Maldives Judiciary and under the Supreme Court of the Maldives. The key objectives of Maldives Judicial Academy is to:

Programs offered by the MJA are expected to be designed and conducted in such a way as to enhance the legal and judicial knowledge and skills of the participants that would contribute to the Maldives Judiciary's work in upholding the rule of law in accord with the doctrines and principles set out by the Constitution of the Republic of Maldives, our laws, and best practices adopted and upheld by modern justice systems throughout the world. AS such, the programs offered at MJA are divided into five categories. With an aim to revise if and necessary, programmes falling into the following categories are currently offered:
Justification for consultancy:
The Maldives Judicial Academy requires external technical expertise to review the existing programmes, the structure and the staffing at the academy. The review should include Identifying the gaps and needs for its effective functioning and suggest other additional programme areas. Furthermore, assist MJA to draft in-service programmes to orient magistrates to harmonise practices among different atolls and Male'.
The main objectives of the proposed consultancy:
With an aim of strengthening the capacity of the Maldives Judicial Academy, the consultant will (i) review current programmes and practices (ii) review the structure of the academy, (iii) propose areas for in-service programme for magistrates, and (iv) develop in-service programme for magistrates to harmonise practices across the atolls and Male'
What is the basic project objective to which the consultancy is related
Capacity at national, regional (atoll) and community (island) levels strengthened to prevent and respond to cases of violence against children, juvenile crimes and drug abuse.
Duty station: Male, Maldives
Travel: Travel to the field to assess current capacity and practices
Supervisor: Programme Specialist, UNICEF MCO together with the MJA

Soft and hard copies to be submitted to UNICEF and MJA. Payments will be disbursed against acceptance of products, and against accepted deliverables and on acknowledgement of the receipt of the deliverables.

The total consultancy is estimated to be around 27 working days and will be based in Maldives (at Juvenile Justice Unit)
