Chief of party | Sri Lanka and Maldives | 2021

Chemonics seeks a chief of party (COP) for the anticipated USAID Climate Change Adaptation Activity in Sri Lanka and Maldives. The project aims to enhance the adaptive capacities of the public and private sectors and local communities in the Maldives and Sri Lanka to climate change impacts in ways that contribute to sustained, inclusive market-based growth. This position will be based in Sri Lanka or the Maldives. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide overall leadership, management, and technical direction for the entire activity, ensuring an integrated vision among different actors, with a focus on achieving the objectives and results
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for USAID/Sri Lanka on all matters related to the day-to-day management and implementation of the activity
  • Identify issues and risks related to program implementation in a timely manner, and suggest appropriate program adjustments
  • Manage project field staff
  • Maintain key stakeholder relations with USAID/Sri Lanka, Sri Lankan and Maldivian government counterparts, and other public and private sector stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • A degree in environmental science, climate change adaptation, international development, business administration, or a relevant field
  • Minimum of ten years of exceptional experience leading international donor-supported programs
  • Minimum of five years of climate change adaptation experience, preferably in Sri Lanka, Maldives, or a similar country context
  • Experience working the Sri Lanka or Maldives, preferred
  • Fluency in English; additional relevant foreign-language proficiency (e.g. Dhivehi, Sinhalese, and/or Tamil) preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships with government officials, non-governmental organizations and other donors
  • Demonstrated experience in coordinating and cooperating with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, private sector businesses, associations, and civil society organizations
  • Exceptional presentation and communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
