Tetra Tech International Development (http://www.tetratech.com/intdev) is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a potential Maldives Solid Waste Specialist position on a USAID-funded program in Sri Lanka/Maldives.
The USAID Sri Lanka/Maldives Ocean Plastic Reduction Program (Ocean Plastics) activity is a five-year initiative that intends to support improved solid waste management practices, with an emphasis on reduction of Ocean Plastics Pollution in Sri Lanka and Maldives. The Activity will work to fulfill this purpose through four complementary objectives: 1) Professionalize, improve and expand solid waste management, with a focus on reducing plastics available to the environment; 2) reduce reliance on virgin plastic inputs and products; 3) empower communities to drive local waste management solutions; and 4) strengthen the enabling environment for solid waste management with an emphasis on reducing ocean plastics. The RFP is anticipated to be released in January 2022 and will likely be based in Malé, Maldives.
The Maldives Solid Waste Specialist oversees the Ocean Plastics technical activity related to solid waste and recycling planning, support to specific grantees, coordination of Ocean Plastics activities with focal municipalities, local governing units (LGU’s), USAID clients, program partners and other external audiences; manages and develops technical projects, and; communicates effectively with the Ocean Plastics Maldives Country Director on strategic initiatives that promote the vision and mission of Ocean Plastics.
Responsibilities:
* Oversees the Ocean Plastics technical activity related to solid waste and recycling planning, support to specific grantees, coordination of Ocean Plastics activities with focal municipalities, local governing units (LGU’s), USAID clients, program partners and other external audiences;
* Works with public, private, and community entities to strengthen SWM/3R systems, processes, and markets.
* Manages and develops technical projects; and
* Communicates effectively with the Ocean Plastics Maldives Country Director on strategic initiatives that promote the vision and mission of Ocean Plastics.
Qualifications:
* Master’s or Engineering degree (or Bachelor’s with 10+ years of relevant experience) in a field relevant to the position of interest (i.e. waste management, environmental engineering, etc.);
* At least seven (7) years of relevant professional experience, preferably in Southeast Asia;
* Experience designing, constructing and/or managing solid waste infrastructure projects;
* Experience developing and implementing solid waste and 3R strategies with international development programs, non-governmental organizations, or the private sector;
* Experience implementing projects and action plans related to solid waste and 3R’s.
* Experience on USAID or other donor-funded projects preferred but not required;
* Proven track record of collaborating with a diverse array of stakeholders (including governments, the private sector, local organizations), fostering collaborative learning and adaptive management, and integrating social inclusion with women, youth, and other vulnerable populations;
* Professional fluency in English required; and
